Hi there!
Long time lurker, and occasional face in the Smile crowd over the last five years or so. Used to go an awful lot around 2002-3.
I was just wondering if anyone here could tell me the name of a musician that used to play at the Anti-Hoot a few years back. My friend and I have just remembered him whilst chatting at work, and this guy was a real unsung hero.
He had a flat cap and a casio keyboard, and I seem to recall he used to play a song called 'Landfill'? along with a tribute to former Bond woman, Madeline Smith. The words to this (and I think everyone in the room knew the words) were, 'come back Madeline Smith/we need you/at least I do".
If anyone gets famous, they should take this guy with them. He brightened up at least two Saturday nights for us.
Cheers.

That would be John Calvert. He first turned up when the Anti-Hoot was on Monday nights and then continued to appear when it moved to Saturdays. I think one of the the last times he appeared was at the Anti Hoot tribute to Hovis Presley (although he may have appeared again since then). Not sure if he's still doing his thing, but he's welcome to come back and perform again should he read this. You're right though, he was superb.

I saw him at Anti Hoot once and gave him a support slot for a gig the next day, remember those two random girls that used to dance for him?
